So, they can kick or hit a ball really well, but there’s more to these revered athletes than Rolex Watches and huge endorsement deals. Here are are our Top Five most likeable sportsmen.

5. Roger Federer

If you want a good dinner buddy, call up Roger Federer. Known as the ‘gentleman of tennis’ this Swiss star is also one of the greatest male tennis player of all time. When Federer recently took part in an ad for Swiss Tourism alongside movie legend Robert de Niro he was described by ad creative Livio Dainese as ‘a simply nice person, who tries new things and can laugh at himself.’ Plus he’s articulate, eloquent and the media just loves him.

4. Rafael Nadal

The King of Clay holds many records and shiny trophies and no doubt possesses great skill on the tennis court, but it’s his humanitarian spirit that makes him a truly great role model and contributes to his superstardom on the court. He opened the Rafael Nadal Academy which helps aspiring young tennis players train up with the best coaches and regimes that got Rafa to where he is today.

3. Cristiano Ronaldo

Besides his six-pack and uh . . . passion . . on the soccer field, this soccer legend also donates blood and blood plasma regularly – a major reason behind the fact that he doesn’t have tattoos, because you can’t donate 4-12 months after you’ve gotten one. He also donates large sums of money to young fans surgeries, home reconstructions and hospital sponsorships, saying that his dad always taught him to do good deeds and help people that are less fortunate.

2. Stephen Curry

The basketball superstar has gained the respect of fans, coaches and players by being a fun, unselfish, passionate team player. He’s always calm during a game and if he’s having an off day, you wouldn’t know it. His biggest stand-out quality? His faith. Curry told Active Faith: “I try to use every game as an opportunity to witness. I try to do a little signal every time I make a shot as a way to preach the message in little ways that I can. Each game is an opportunity to be on a great stage and be a witness for Christ. When I step on the floor, people should know who I represent and who I believe in”.

1. Eli Manning

This New York Giants quarterback is a huge advocate for children’s charities and also founded his own children’s clinic which provides outpatient care to 75 000 children every year. Nothing rattles this sports star – he’s always cool and confident, dedicated and wickedly funny while also being; humble, accepting blame and giving the spotlight to each of his teammates. Eli Manning really is a wonderful human, role model and athlete.
